Here is a VERY large ammonite from an extremely unusual location. This is Gymnites incultus from the Triassic of Greece. Triassic cephalopods are not common in the fossil record - there are only a few places in the world where they are found. This type of ammonite has a very smooth shell and a narrow keel. This very large specimen is quite 3-dimensional and exhibits fine detail - the coiling pattern of the mollusk is easily seen. The naturally black ammonite displays beautifully on the reddish limestone block in which it was found. Incredibly, there is another nice Gymnites ammonite preserved on the same plate! This is a very collectible and displayable ammonite from the Triassic of Greece.

A Certificate of Authenticity from EXTINCTIONS is included with this specimen.
