This is one of the most prolific fossil fish plates we have ever offered. It is a HUGE Mass Mortality plate from the Green River Formation of Wyoming. This fossil was found in the ''18 Inch Layer'', a layer where the fossils have wonderful detail and great dark color. The fossils from this layer need to be extracted under a microscope to reveal all the detail - this is done with an air scribe and air abrasive. This very large specimen (almost a SIX FEET LONG!) has incredible detail, much better than most. There are an amazing 38 fossil fish on the slab - 32 Knightia, 5 Diplomystus dentatus, and one predatory Mioplosus labricoides. And, best of all, the fossil is fully natural - absolutely no compositing of fish has been done. This is an extremely large, aesthetic multiple fish fossil with MANY examples of three different species of fish on one plate. (Fossil is shipped in a wooden crate via freight.
