This is a fabulous ammonite fossil. It is a HUGE Deschaesites imitator from the Cretaceous of Russia. This type of ammonite has strong ribs that are very easily seen. This cephalopod is extremely 3-dimensional and exhibits wonderful detail. The coiling pattern of the mollusk is quite evident, and the tiny, inner whorls of the ammonite are intact and very easily seen. The colorful nacreous and pyritized shell of the ammonite is still intact and displays very well. The ammonite is almost a foot long and sits on a beautiful matrix base. And the back side of the fossil is also wonderfully preserved (see photo). This is a fantastic display specimen of a large Cretaceous ammonite that could easily be the centerpiece of any ammonite collection.

A Certificate of Authenticity from EXTINCTIONS is included with this specimen.
