This is a very large Asaphid trilobite. It is a massive Asaphus (Neoasaphus) cornutus from the Middle Ordovician of Russia. This specimen is huge - over 5 inches long! The bug is extremely inflated and wonderfully articulated. The large, protruding eyes are easily seen, and the individual thoracic segments are quite distinct. The caramel-colored trilobite contrasts beautifully with the light-colored matrix. The extinct arthropod is well showcased on the large, natural plate of limestone that also contains two specimens of Echinosphaerites cystoids. This is a very large and collectible specimen of this classic Asaphid trilobite. We have seen very few Russian Asaphids this large and this nice.
A Certificate of Authenticity from EXTINCTIONS is included with this specimen.
