This is a beautiful ammonite fossil. It is a huge Deschaesites imitator from the Cretaceous of Russia. This type of ammonite has strong ribs that are very easily seen. This cephalopod is quite 3-dimensional and exhibits wonderful detail. The coiling pattern of the mollusk is quite evident, and the tiny, inner whorls of the ammonite are intact and very easily seen. The colorful nacreous and pyritized shell of the ammonite is still intact and contrasts well with the light-colored matrix. The large ammonite (almost a foot across!) is beautifully displayed in the center of the large plate of limestone. This is a fantastic display specimen of a huge Cretaceous ammonite that could easily be the centerpiece of any fossil collection.
A Certificate of Authenticity from EXTINCTIONS is included with this specimen.
