This is a very large spiny trilobite. It is a fabulous Selenopeltis buchii from the Ordovician Layers of Morocco. This fossil was microscopically prepared in the EXTINCTIONS Preparation Lab here in Colorado. This trilobite was found in extremely dense sandstone - note the unusual texture of the matrix. The thick shell exoskeleton is very well preserved and contrasts wonderfully with the sculpted matrix block. This amazing bug is very 3-D and is aesthetically showcased on the large block of limestone. And the long spines are impressively intact and display very well - this is incredibly rare feature for this type of trilobite. This is one of the best Selenopeltis buchii we have ever had - and probably the largest!
A Certificate of Authenticity from EXTINCTIONS is included with this specimen.
